Art education support demonstration

Checked out the demonstration against the ongoing cuts in the art-education. Good speeches, even cultural minister had time to drop by. I was bit disapointed about the crowd. Even thought it was significantly bigger than last demonstration I was in, the great antibailout demonstration, it was still reasonably small. Apparently all the schools that will be closed down are too far from Helsinki. But nice demonstration anyway, even had some sort of performances and so.

Occupy Helsinki

Starting from the Wall Street, spawning all over the world now. The occupy movement now has a camp here in Helsinki as well. Located nicely at Tölö-bay between Eduskuntatalo, Sanomatalo and former Makasiinit building it is nicely in the center of attention.

So if you are in Helsinki, check it out. They have general meetings every day 18.00, if you want to get involved.

Halloween

Halloween is not very big thing in Finland, but since we have some english-speaking friends Nuutti got invited to a Halloween party. It was quite funny to see him roaming the streets of Kallio on his way back home.

Winter coming

Leaves are falling, temperature dropping and very soon it will be snowing. Good time to go through last summers photos. I have been skateboarding with my children quite a lot, and I have been trying to document how their skills progress.

Well everybody has to draw the line somewhere, and somebody had drawn it here. This is the sidewalk of Helsinginkatu, the othetr side is Kallio and other side is Harju (or Alppiharju).

Tuntematon Sotilas

Noticed that Yle Teema will re-run the Kristian Smeds version of the Unknown soldier. For me that definitely brings back a lot of memories. I did spend quite a lot of time in the rehersal room, and around the big stage documenting this process.




Tuntematon had quite a lot of publicity, so some of my original photos ended in strange places like tabloids, schollbooks and so. Now I desided to gather a short alternative photoset of less used photos.

Mimosa Pale at Kluuvi

If I go to exhibitions, I allways go either to the opening, or last minute before it closes. Usyally this is bit problematic. Openings are allways too crowded, and more social events, so it is hard to concentrate on the works. Last day is a bit problematic because busy artists often start to tear down their stuff before I get there.

Since I missed Mimosa Pales opening at Kluuvi Gallery, I was there 1 hour before the end. This time I was lucky, this exhibition did not just fade away. When I got there 45min before the end it wass definitely going on at full speed.
